Good News for Frequent Travelers with Pets

Many expats living in Mexico are frequent flyers with their pets and have concerns regarding over-vaccinating them for travel, but now Mexico has established a Frequent Traveler Pet Program.

To register for the program apply through SENASICA Servicio Nacional de Sanidad, Inocuidad Calidad Agroalimentaria; they require a health certificate issued by a SENASICA-authorized veterinarian, current rabies vaccine, and treatment against internal and external parasites (within the last six months).

Once your pet is registered in this program, Senasica will issue an official entry document for each pet which will contain pertinent data about you and your pet, plus vaccination records and parasite treatment. It also certifies the state of the pet’s health for each entry into the country.

The object of the program is a reduced number of unnecessary vaccines for the pet and less wait time at the airport. You will no longer need to wait for the import certificate as it will be emailed to you.

With the program, your pet can enter the country as frequently as you wish over the next six months, provided the rabies vaccine and deworming are valid and your pet is in good health.

The Registro de Ingreso document may be obtained at the SENASICA offices located at airports in Cancun, Guadalajara, Querétaro, Zihuatanejo, Toluca, and Mazatlán. This program is only valid at the airport which you applied to.
