Nuevo Vallarta is located on Banderas Bay of the Pacific coast in the state of Nayarit,  Mexico, a 15-minute drive from the Puerto Vallarta International Airport.

The climate is similar to the Caribbean, it is located close to the equator and is typically hotter than Puerto Vallarta. The area reportedly has over 300 days of sunshine a year, and temperatures range from 20 to 35 Celsius.

The rainy season is July to September, which in reality means only about two hours of warm rain a few days a week. Many people prefer the Pacific coast as they feel protected from major storms and hurricanes by the surrounding mountains and Banderas Bay.
